I am dual booting Antergos and newly installed Tumbleweed. I have Kodi on Antergos which runs with no problems but on Tumbleweed with the same settings I have no sound. Videos play fine via Totem & sound is fine on the net too.
Are you running the KDE or Gnome desktop (with pulse audio enabled) ?
If so, trying installing pavucontrol (pulse audio volume control) and check it to ensure that your application kodi is sending sound to the correct audio device.
pavucontrol allows one to control the output of an applications audio on an application/sound-device basis.
Thanks for the reply. I am running Gnome (same as Antergos) & playing sound through my amplifier, so analogue not digital or via HDMI. Sound works on everything else, Totem, Firefox, even my game via Wine. Just nothing on Kodi.
Installed Pavcontrol & rechecked settings - still no sound
Just installed VLC to pick up on any missed codecs. Still the same. Looks like I will have to try reinstalling Kodi & see if that works.
I had that same problem a few weeks ago. I fixed it like this:
I played a video
IIRC there was a speaker icon with a line thru it in the upper right I clicked that until
there was a box that showed up called Audio and Subtitle Settings
4)move the top 2 sliders to the right until you hear something
Another time before (in 13.1)the incident above this was fixed by clicking the speaker icon at the bottom of Kodi’s screen when a vid is played and the mouse is hovered over the bottom. The same box showed up for me then.
Have you tried this:
KODI>System Settings>Audio Output>Audio Output Device
On my setup this reads Default Default Device(PULSEAUDIO)
When I click on that I see other audio devices available to me an HDMI system & an analog system.
Is it possible that your amplifier isn’t seen by Kodi (in Tumbleweed anyway) & this might work?
Yeah already tried this too & I have 3 options one being the Digital option which in the past has caused problems when it was selected by an app but not this time. Tried both the top - Default (Pulseaudio) & bottom option - Built in audio analog surround 5.0 line out (pulseaudio) & neither makes any difference
OK a little help here please. Remember i’m new to OpenSuse. Using Yast I go through your steps & search Kodi then select VIEW - Repositories - find Kodi on the list - highlite it & click Switch but it brings up a window with Chromium options.

] break chromium-ffmpeg-47.0.2526.111-809.1.i586 by ignoring some of its dependencies
Well I just did a huge update & then rebooted and … still the same
So I went back to that Chromium message when I followed the "Yast - Software - Software Management - View - Repos - Packman repo - “Switch system packages …”. instruction from Knurpht and thought as it was saying there was a conflict that I would choose the ] deinstallation of chromium-ffmpeg-47.0.2526.106-4.1.x86_64 option. It then downloaded a load of new options AND … KODI NOW WORKS :good:
