kmail - su another user

Hi,
I share our systems with my wife. To read her mail she starts a new session
and logs in as herself. Instead, why can’t she do a “su <user>” and start kmail
in a DOS window? It gives an error:
“<unknown program name>(24920)/: Cannot find the D-Bus session server”

Thanks for a hint,
Ake

She should try:

su -l <user>

And please, this is a terminal window, or just a terminal, or a shell … not a DOS window.

  • or are you trying to run kmail in DosBOX, dosemu or whatever (!?)

OK, grand merci, it works (in a terminal window  )
Incredible how fast you get good answers in this forum!

I will give you an extra.

Are you aware of the fact that you as well as your wife can be loged in (in the GUI) at the same time?

From the Kmenu (the Lizard main menu lower left) choose the RED X and then “change user” (I have a Dutch version here, so the wording may be different). Follow the instructions there and login with the other user name. Now you have two sessions on logical console 7 and 8 and you can switch between them with Ctrl-Alt-F7 and Ctrl-Alt-F8 when needed.

Maybe the solution you allready have works OK, but … it is just an extra

Just “su - user” should work.
