This problem has been ongoing since I started building this computer 26 Nov, 2014. Trying to set up Kontact and Kmail was the first thing I did after installing openSUSE and going through the online updates. I have done this many times before with no problem. SMTP was working fine on the old computer the day before I got the new one. The new computer is built and configured for my wife except it will not send email via Kmail SMTP. She is unhappy and that means I am unhappy.
Here is what I have done:
- Spent two days with the ipower support people - the error message led me to believe the mail server was rejecting all recipients. They assure me everything is ok on their end (the email is associated with my website domain and the mail servers are operated by ipowerweb, my web hosting service). I still think the problem may be with ipower because the SMTP connection on the old computer used SSL authentication and they tell me it now uses no encryption. That tells me they have changed something
on their SMTP server. - Reread the kmail manuals and reinstalled and reconfigured repeatedly, trying all variations I came across. - Deleted and reconfigured SMTP repeatedly using what Ipower support suggested and what worked last week and what still works on other computers connecting to the same mail servers (different email accounts).
- In desperation, I thought maybe there had been changes in Kmail that I did not know about and reverted to the version that was working early last week. I did that by doing a new installation of openSUSE 13.1 as mentioned in previous posts her. SMTP still does not work.
I really need some help to get moving in the right direction. What configuration setting in openSUSE, Kontact or Kmail could I possibly be overlooking?
If past experience is any indication, the solution is so simple I will feel like a fool when it is pointed out to me.
Cordially,
