I can’t exactly say since when, but quick search in the message list in kmail (Alt + q) doesn’t work anymore. Normal search (s) does work, but it’s much more complicated than Alt + q. Maybe it is connected to an update? Or did I accidentally switch it of without noticing? If so, where can I find this switch?
I am not a lover of hot-keys, but I looked into Settings > Configure hot-keys. And yes, it is there, but Alt+Q there says something like: Goto quick Search Bar. And yes, I do have a quick search bar and alt+q sets the cursor in it.
So my questions are:
- did you check if that hot key is still in the hot key list?
- do you have the quick search bar, else IMHO it will be problematic to jump to it?

- no, the quick search bar has vanished (and I have no idea why and how to get it back)
Settings → Show Quick Search Bar
To let the bar appear, you must have selected a directory or something on the left side once.
I can activate quick search from the menu “Settings->quicksearch” (translated from German “Einstellungen->Schnellsuche anzeigen”) or Ctrl+H .
OK, that did the job. Thanks a lot. I use on a daily base and missed it a lot. I guess, I accidentally pressed Crtl+H. No idea, why I didn’t find it myself.
