I am currently trying to install openSuSE 12.2 on a VMWare Server 1.0.10 System. Directly after kernel boot, the kernel crashes with following call stack
i have no idea what the kernel mumbles about, and no idea how to learn
what any of that means–but, i do have some ideas (with no answers):
is the openSUSE you are trying to install 64 bit? and, can the VMWare
you are using host a 64 bit OS (not all VMs can)?
what host OS is the VM running in (not all OS can host a 64 capable VM)?
try installing that media on real metal…
if you can then you know the VM is screwed, and you need to ask about
that on the VMWare forum
if you can’t install to real metal, you know your install media is
screwed… (did you do this first: http://tinyurl.com/cj94x8d ?)
OR your hardware is not suitable for Linux…what is it?
OR you need to look at the BIOS…maybe update the bios…

Notice that there is a virtualization forum here. You should have posted
there, and now you should ask a moderator to move your post there.
However.
It is impossible to use WVware server, it is old and not maintained.
There are incompatibilities that no one has solved. I have links to some
hacks to install it on Linux, but your case is different, you are
installing Linux in it.
Use VMware player instead, it is also free.
