I am trying to create a video using kdenlive (have been reading posts on
Doug08 thread), and I am having a similar problem. I recorded some video
with a camcorder, mpg format, and brought it into kdenlive. When trying
to play the video, I get no audio.
Also, here is the terminal output when I run kdenlive from a konsole and
hit the play button:

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have been tasked with
creating this video in the next couple of days and I know little to
nothing about video processing.
I did see in the other thread a suggestion to downgrade to ffmpeg 1.0.1,
but that package is not in my current repositories, as I try and stay up
to date. Only the latest one is in the list from packman that I saw, and
I am not familiar with downgrading. I saw that Doug compiled from
source, and I don’t really know how to compile from source.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have no solutions myself, but I do note that the Packman packager of kdenlive is aware of the problem and is looking for a solution. Presumeably once that solution is found, there will be updates on the Packman site.
ffmpeg has been rolled back by Packman packagers and mlt/melt and kdenlive updated to work with that version. Has anyone tried kdenlive now with this update in place ?

I ran it just now and was able to bring in a videoclip, hear the sound
in the preview, render to file (dv format only) several clips together
and it worked.
Here is the command line output from bringing in a single video clip and
rendering it to a dv video:

I don’t know what LADSPA plugins are, and I also noticed that every
codec is unsupported except dv. So I still have to use ffmpeg to convert
to a smaller size file, and I am working on figuring out how to use
avidemux.

As noted in this thread I use handbrake a lot to re-encode videos. Here is my quote from the other thread … (and I recommend you try handbrake) :
If all you intend to do is re-encode, and not retune the video brightness, size or other aspect, then IMHO you are far better using handbrake than avidemux for this task.
