KDE Plasma on Wayland vs Wayland Full

Although I am running OpenSUSE Leap 15.3, this is more general to KDE.
Would running a newer version of KDE work better with Wayland.https://community.kde.org/KWin/Wayland#Wayland_Support_in_Plasma

Wayland support in the KDE Plasma Workspaces is in a tech-preview state.

Since 5.4 KWin is able to manage Wayland clients and this allows to start a Plasma session on Wayland.

It seems this article is old. KDE is now at 5.22, so perhaps Wayland support is much better now than it was then.

Wayland support for KDE Plasma was delayed until the release of Plasma 5, though previously KWin 4.11 got an experimental Wayland support. The version 5.4 of Plasma was the first with a Wayland session. During 2020 Klipper was ported to Wayland and the next 5.20 release in October 2020 has the goal to improve screen casting and recording.

I just tried running KDE with Wayland.
I am on OpenSUSE Leap 15.3 and KDE 5.18
I think next I would try Wayland again when I am on OpenSUSE Leap 15.4 which has a much newer version of KDE.

First Plasma (Wayland Full), then I tried Plasma (Wayland).

My multi monitor configuration did not work well with Wayland, in either Partial or Full session.
In Full Wayland even though one of the monitors was configured with a 90 degrees clockwiese orientation, it was still horizontal, and some parts of the main ultrawide monitor leaked into it.

With the partial Wayland session, it even got worse. There I could not even get Spectacle to take a screenshot.

This shows a screenshot when running in Full Wayland.

You’re free to use a newer KDE Plasma desktop environment…

…however, I’m not sure that it will guarantee a much improved experience. A huge factor in behaviour is down to the graphics hardware/driver.

As OpenSUSE Leap 15.4 is now available I think I will try the KDE 5.24
Unless the latest KDE 5.25 has some better Wayland support?

I am running a laptop with Intel CPU og Intel graphics.

No pesky NVIDIA which I think has poor Wayland support.

I wanted to try Wayland for some time now.
I wondered first about the Wayland Plasma and Full Wayland Plasma.

Reading this thread gave me some insight.

Wayland has been around now for quite some time, and I find it strange it is not yet fully working on KDE.

I am using these repos for a long time and KDE works fine.

Same here, but perhaps you misunderstood that the OP is talking specifically about Plasma Wayland sessions?
