Kde connect does not see phone and vice versa

Hello all,

Coming from manjaro and have been using tumbleweed for serveral months now without any issue. My problem is that gsconnect still isn’t updated to work with gnome 45, therefor having to fall back to the normal kdeconnect application. I cannot get it to work properly which is why I am asking for help now.

I’ve opened up the appropriate ports in the firewall and checked if my phone is reachable:

netcat -z -v 192.168.1.127 1714-1764
netcat: connect to 192.168.1.127 port 1714 (tcp) failed: Connection refused
netcat: connect to 192.168.1.127 port 1715 (tcp) failed: Connection refused
Connection to 192.168.1.127 1716 port [tcp/xmsg] succeeded!

On the phone side I already whitlisted the IP of the laptop and refreshed the list. Nothing shows up. In the kdeconnect setting app this message is displayed in the top left field:

Process org.kde.kdeconnect exited with status 1

The kdeconnect app remains blank and it’s not possible to press the + Find devices… button. Searching the forum only gave me the usual tips.

Thank you.

Do you have both installed? If Yes, gsconnect will not work if KdeConnect is installed.

No I have removed the gsconnect extension and rebooted.

Have you checked your firewall? Check the wiki for instructions

https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:KDE_Connect

First thing I’ve checked. Firewall seems to be configured properly. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to ping my phone from my laptop. On top of that gsconnect worked as it should.

is there a lan side firewall on your router? That might be the issue.

Opnsense for wan>lan. Gsconnect worked fine.

Which Desktop GUI are you using?

  • GNOME?
  • KDE Plasma?

Welcome to the openSUSE Forums!

Gnome, as stated in the OP.

Thanks! @dcurtisfra

KDE Connect is a KDE Plasma application.

  • The application’s behaviour in a Desktop Environment which isn’t KDE Plasma is undefined.

From the opensuse wiki page:

KDE Connect is available for openSUSE Leap and Tumbleweed from the main repository. If you use a desktop environment other than KDE’s Plasma, you might also want to install indicator-kdeconnect, that provides a system tray as a GUI for other desktops.
