KDE Compositor blurs windows at random

Hello everyone,

I’ve recently went from 42.3 to 15.1 and have found that for some reason the KDE compositor blurs intermittently some parts of the screen at random, making usage a pain. As you can see in the image attached:

When I disable the compositor the blurring goes away but some parts of the screen fail to refresh (e.g. both taskbars fail to refresh icons, the clock and monitors don’t update). I’m running on an Nvidia 1060 6GB with the proprietary driver with the latest drivers and kernel from the official repos (not Tumbleweed).

Any idea of what could be causing this? This is the first time I’ve come across this issue and it hadn’t happened in my previous Opensuse installs on this same hardware.

Video card?

Try a different user it may be old setting in configs

Thank you for the suggestion Gogalthorp,

I switched to another user and that session did not have any issues with compositing. Now, I know it wasn’t the appropriate thing to do for the experiment, but the user switching happened with the original user still active (i.e. the one with the issues). Upon returning to the original session and reactivating compositing the issue went away, and things are back to normal. Thinking back, it was this cycle (logged in user, switching to another one, logging out and returning to the original session) what triggered the issue in the first place. Even weirder is that the problems survived reboots and logouts, which would suggest that you’re right in that it may be something going on with my config files.

I have had some minor cosmetic issues with user switching in the past so perhaps it would be a good idea if anyone could give me a hand in pinpointing where the issue could be in case anyone else has the same problem. Namely, where the config files for compositing in KDE are so I can compare the files for both users and check which configuration might have triggered this weird behaviour.

Again thank you for suggesting switching to another user.
