KDE 4 RC 3 is out

It’s showing up as “release 146”. I’m trying it out now.

Looks nice, but they haven’t fixed the annoying Dolphin kio bug…where the authorization window shows up twice for any out-of-domain ftp or fish sessions.

Have you actually got fish:// working in Dolphin?

Yes, it works with no problems at home and also at work. Its the one kio protocol I use all the time to access my NIS drives at work.

Darn.
It’s not for me and there is a massive bug report on it with a subscriber list that would circle the world.

OMG
I just tried it and it’s working!

I get one request for password. I have password set as well as Key Authentication.

Wow, thats news to me. Its worked reliably for me…and doesn’t do the double authentication thing if I enter with the fish:/<username>:<password>@<IP/URL> format. Can you post a link to this bug report? Is it on the Novell Bugzilla or KDE Bugs website?

out-of-domain
You mean not on the LAN?
Hang on let me try my sons ftp

Bug 189235 – fish protocol broken

Just installed it, re-booted, and noticed a new broken item as soon as I’d
logged on. My display of desktops in the task-bar had been re-arranged so I
reset number of columns in the Pager Settings and - nothing changed. Checked
again and saw the change to the settings hadn’t registered so tried again -
and failed. Any odds on an RC4?

Made some progress - of a sort.

Good news: I’ve found out how to get two columns.
Bad news: I lose some rows.

I have the task-bar as a side-bar and have ten desktops as 2 cols x 5 rows.
When I logged in, my setting of 2 columns had changed to 5. I’ve now found
that if I change the columns to 3, they change to 4. If I then change them
to 5, they change to 2 - hooray! But only 3 rows are shown - boo! Actually,
it looks like 3.1 rows are shown - I can just see the top of the 4th row -
so calculation of the space for the desktops array has gone askew as well.

Oh bother! Just moved the task-bar to the bottom of the screen - where it
sort of works - and moved it back to the side to find I can now only see
about 2.2 rows.

@Cloddy
I don’t have any issue with this.
I have 4 desktops and 2 rows in lower panel

LOL. I suppose it’s my fault for wanting too many desktops.
Try changing to a side panel and one column if you want some fun.

Something I should have mentioned before: The system I found the fault on
was 11.2, but now I’ve also updated 11.1 on another machine to RC3 and got
exactly the same trouble.

When 4.3 is out will it get it’s own repo like 4.2? I would like to get it when it’s out in august.

No very unlikely and I can’t be bothered finding the mailing list msg about the 42 repo.

The 42 repo came about due to the problems some where having with 4.1.3 when this had approached some kind of stability 4.3 the release expected for 11.2 moved into the factory tree. Therefore the decision due to the users of 4.2 and many recommendations to use 4.2 over 4.1.3. It was decided to create a repo and I presume some kind soul agreed to maintain it.(iirc it is also related to the 42 livecd)

Another thing I noticed when I did this update. Kupdateapplet is another of those pkgs that removed the kde4- from the beginning of the name. I don’t think this will change automatically if one updates all the KDE pkgs.
