kde 4.1

hello,

has kde 4.1 already included on the latest opensuse 11.0 dvd download?

thanks for your answer and help

satria.

kde 4.0.4 is on suse 11

you will need the 4.1 factory repos from here
Index of /repositories

or one click
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0/KDE4-DEFAULT.ymp

Of course there are OpenSuse 11 with KDE 4.1 by default, check out this link…

“KDE Four Live” CD](http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/)

Have fun…

you asked

BUT it is correct that there is now a **CD **as Shokyto correctly replied

I read this everywhere, that you need the factory repo to use KDE4.1.
But won’t 4.1 be available in the KDE4 stable repo eventually?

I ask because i’m using the stable repo and i see a lot of packages being
updated to 4.1 but not all, it is still KDE4.04.

Is the factory repo more stable then the unstable repo?

In short NO.
4.0.4 was released with suse11
though a live cd is now released with 4.1 it is just the Factory packages as quoted earlier to you.
Yes there are 4.1 packages in the 4.0.4 stable and have been for a long time.
Yes Factory is more stable than the unstable (it’s kind of self explanitory)

Thanks for clearing that up.
I always thought of factory repo’s being the same thing as unstable.

thanks for all the answers, i just installed gnome 11.0 x64 w/ kde 4.0 as the desktop, it looks really nice, it lags a bit when opening windows and opengl screensavers though…

They really don’t make it easy.

For openSUSE 11.0:

STABLE = 4.0.4 with patches etc., won’t stray from 11.0 install.

UNSTABLE = regular builds from svn trunk (KDE 4.2 at this point) that will frequently break, particularly during the early development phase

FACTORY = Packages destined for 11.1, so think 4.1 with whatever patches and backports the devs feel are beneficial. This is actually the juiciest repo, since it will provide the best balance between cutting edge and stability.

Cheers,
KV

i just downloaded the kde 4.1 one-click install, the factory and the 11.0 ones, i wonder why is the *.ymp file is so small, it’s sized at ~8kiB, does it already have all the update files cramped into that file?
