I always liked it, and never failed for more then a year… After update 2 laptops (guess the problem was KDE) both were broken. Downloaded it again, reinstalled 2 times, all went smooth, and already have KDE Plasma 6. Then reboot after the first update and both are in the same state as before. Put the login password (no autologin and not found SDDM conf in /etc) then get frozen.
Had to rollback to the first snapshot.
Atomic desktops are meant to prevent you, the user, from making any mistakes and borking the system.
They don’t say anything about the quality or lack thereof of the packages that make up the desktop itself 
I have been out of town since Saturday Morning, due to some personal obligations, but as the Lead Kalpa Developer, I’m not seeing any mass reports of Kalpa becoming any less stable than it was before the upgrade. Some minor issues regarding kcm_sddm6, and pam_kwallet6.
What image did you use to do the reinstall?
I used the last image, i guess; downloaded it yesterday (Sun 18 March)
Not wanted to make a rant, just a feedback. Never had major issues with OpenSUSE, and had used all (Leap, TW, MicroOS with all the DE).
Now if i put the password in the login manager i have a black screen and can’t even change tty. It get frozen and can’t ssh to it. If avoid to login, ssh work, and can update it from remote.
2 laptops (Acer and MSI) only 1 have nVidia, same issue; i suspect is SDDM.
Nvidia, I can’t help you with. I don’t have any hardware to test against.
Is the other system AMD or Intel graphics?
Can you post the logs of sudo journalctl -b | grep sddm That will get you the logs of the most recent boot.
And just to make sure I understand, these are both fresh installs and user accounts, with no pre-existing configurations in $HOME/.config?
I installed it to a previous installation, and i don’t check to import from a previous user, so it should be rewrite. Anyway this is a laptop with Intel and no GPU. I formatted the hard disk from bios before install it.

This happened to me on a virtualbox MicroOS VM with KDE.
When boot everything works fine, you can even change between ttys BEFORE trying to login, when I tried to login, screen went black and the system just crashed. I had to add video memory (from 64 MB to 128 and change video controller (from VMSVGA to VBoxSVGA).
I’ve had this behavior in other VM’s with KDE6 and wayland, changing from wayland to X11 has worked for me every time, sadly MicroOS SDDM doesn’t show the option to make this change.

/etc/sddm.conf dosen’t exixst, and i have nothing in /etc/sddm.conf.d.

So I’m not sure what’s going on, but you’ve got an authentication problem with PAM.
What happens if you hit something like alt-ctrl-F4, login there, and then issue startplasma-wayland

If i try to start wayland from another TTY

Ok, so this definitely isn’t a Kalpa Specific bug. Based on this second set of logs. We don’t actually do anything differently than Tumbleweed-KDE does with sddm or it’s configurations, Please file a bug @ Log in to Bugzilla
Select “KDE Workspace (Plasma)” as your Component.
If i switch TTY before to put the password and start wayland it work.
I only had time for a quick look at the SDDM logging - Do you have ‘plasma6-sddm-theme-openSUSE’ installed?
zypper se -s plasma6-sddm-theme-openSUSEMaybe also show what is returned by
zypper se -si sddm

On this laptop log you shared I noticed

Remove any existing SDDM configuration, and try starting it again.
Don’t have any conf files under /etc or /etc/sddm.conf.d. Where are they? In my home .config?
