Hi all,
I’ve installed kalpa on my laptop but after rebooting the first setup windows is stuck and doesn’t finish. The prompt windows doesn’t give you any idea of what is going on or if there is any error, so I was wondering if it’s possible to launch it maybe from the terminal and see what’s happening behind the scene and understand what’s wrong.
I haven’t a clue what you mean by this.
What First Setup Window?
Which image did you use to make your install with?
I used the microos image from the website and choose KDE as DE during installation. After installation is finished, on first boot, a window that says “initial setup” appears with a progress bar, but stays there without doing anything. If I cancel and reboot it doesn’t appear anymore.
so after logging into the desktop?
Yes, exactly, but only the first time.
Offhand, is the network active, when you login that first time? mod-firstboot runs a Networking check, via a curl command, to make sure the network is up before proceeding. No network connection available, and it exits, that’s how it’s designed.
Network is there and working on first boot. I’ve configured it in the installer and I’ve connectivity as soon as system starts
Was Firefox installed, when you booted it for the first time?
No, Firefox isn’t installed.
Huh. This is the first report of it failing like this, So I’m not sure what to tell you. It’s relatively easy to verify if it works or not, if you just create a new user, and then login there, and see if it fails again.
I just tried it here, in VM and on my personal workstation, and it worked fine.
Other than create another user (which I’ll try) there is a way to launch it from terminal and see a log?
You should be able to crack open a terminal, or use krunner to launch /usr/bin/mod-firstboot
Hello.
I’ve face the same problem today with a fresh install of kalpa.
The problem seem to be in the /usr/bin/kalpa-firstboot script.
The commands kwriteconfig5 and qdbus-qt5 are not available with
plasma 6. I think kwriteconfig6 and qdbus6 is there equivalent.

Denez
Oh crap. You guys are right.
That’s completely my bad, I forgot we were using kdialog, and never updated teh script.
/me goes off to port the thing, and push an update, because he’s an idiot.
