Have here a TW 64 (all updates done, Kaffeine 2.0.13, repositories: packman priority 80, rest standard, priority 99).
OK, Kaffeine worked fine from setup in February, some days ago I wanted to watch TV (DVB-S), audio was OK, but Kaffeine window stayed black, no matter what I do.
Had to work with the machine via VNC and just for fun I started Kaffeine and …believe it or not… via VNC the video signal is there (no way to watch TV this way, but anyhow…)
Does anybody have the slightes idea where to look for this weired stuff?
…it’s an older NVIDIA card (Quadro NVS 290) in a Dell Precision 690 Tower. No NVIDIA stuff installed, so this opensuse eehm… forgot the name… standard driver for NVIDIA… :shame:
Anyway the options via menus are VERY sparse in Kaffeine, so any hint to the correct config file highly appreciated.
Have here another DVB-S machine with Kaffeine, but after some problems I followed Wolfi’s advice to switch to Kaffeine 1 from some other repo. But would have to have a closer look and the machine is currently remote.
I’ll install Kaffeine later on and give it a peek unless someone else has an idea - it’s been many years since I last used it for DVB but I recall having to tweak the video output module for some GPUs and their drivers.
So what I’m saying might be outdated - I need to install and see.
Sorry, I could NOT debug the original system I opend this thread for, but I have a comparable problem on another Kaffein on TW 64bit KDE. No video, window is black, but audio is OK.
kaffeine -v

Graphics is Nouveau with NVIDIA Quadro FX1800.
I tried
kaffeine --graphicssystem opengl
which fails with an error message as well as
kaffeine --graphicssystem raster
which fails with the same error messages as starting without any options.
…is it a good idea to try to switch to VLC-based Kaffeine? Although I switched to the old version in the past due to problems with the new Kaffeine. Seigh.
I find mythtv the most reliable once it’s set up. It’s a bit complicated to set up but works fine once you’ve mastered it.
I’ve tried Kodi in the past but I could never get that one to work.
But this machine with this DVB-S card and Kaffeine was working flawlessly for some months now. I though about buying a different (used) graphics card, but which brand is not in trouble with TW every few months? Black VNC windows served, Kaffeine disrupted…
And I don’t understand why from one day to the other this stopped working. Is the Nouveau driver? Codecs? Kaffeine itself hasn’t changed for some time now, I think. Will this be fixed in a week? Or never?
…changing the graphics card output from DVI to HDMI gives at least a picture for the old channels, while for the HD-channels video is dead, same h264 error…>:(
Hi! Now I have a little time for this machine. with both commands Kaffeine windo opens, I can start a TV channel and get audio, but no video:

I still can only watch TV via VNC, on the display directly connected to the machine I only get the audio and the kaffeine window is black. There has to be an option to switch the video output to the physically connected display… Very sad…
