K3B not ripping mp3

Hi, I’m having trouble getting K3B to rip a CD. It rips OGG ok but gives an error message when attempting to rip in MP3’s. Any suggestions.

System

K3b Version: 1.0.5

KDE Version: 3.5.10 “release 21.11”
QT Version: 3.3.8b
Kernel: 2.6.27.7-9-default
Devices

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N WC05 (/dev/sr0, ) [CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL] [DVD-ROM, DVD-R Sequential, DVD-R Dual Layer Sequential, DVD-R Dual Layer Jump, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW Restricted Overwrite, DVD-RW Sequential, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD+R Dual Layer, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW] [SAO, TAO, RAW, SAO/R96P, SAO/R96R, RAW/R16, RAW/R96P, RAW/R96R, Restricted Overwrite, Layer Jump]

Thanks :expressionless:

Use ogg it’s open source and sounds better to my ears

this was NOT what the OP asked. He wanted MP3, not Vorbis audio. Even though Vorbis is better at lower bitrates than MP3, he didn’t ask for it, so pushing your own personal preferences here is not desired. I can say the same about AAC VS Vorbis audio where AAC punches the shi.t out of Vorbis at very low bitrates

@ OP

install the k3b-codec package which has MP3 support - it’s in the Packman repo

Thanks for all your thoughts :sarcastic:
I seem to have had K3B element installed from different repositories. Having installed all from Packman it is working:)
A silly mistake but there you go.
Cheers!

I’ve had a similar problem with k3b. For some reason it does not like the command line settings for LAME. However, if you use the k3b codecs, that are not loaded by default, all works well.

Hi, I am having same problems and have taken all the advice posted in this and other similar threads. Flac works but Lame does not. I have Packman K3b-codecs but was not aware one had to “load” them once installed, so where next? Any ideas gratefully received.

OK, now I understand. Mp3 works with k3b-codecs but I want to use lame. Anybody out there with lame working?
