Hi all,
Today installed the latest version of openSuse 42.1, but even though I select ‘Plasma’ at the login prompt I’m still running KDE 4.14.10.
Thought I was going to see KDE 5 something?
I upgraded from 13.2 (x64) to Leap 42.1 as a new installation.
Any advice?
Many thanks.
And how do you recon that?
If you upgraded to Leap 42.1, you cannot still have KDE4 (the desktop).
But if you select “About” in a KDE4 application (there still are plenty yet), then you will be told that it’s using “KDE Platform 4.14.10”, which it does.
Just like any KDE3 application will tell you it’s using KDE3…
Hi wolfi323,
By running the command below.
rhawkins@linux-js7b:~> kde-open -v
Qt: 4.8.6
KDE Development Platform: 4.14.10
KIO Client: 2.0
Thought that maybe as I hadn’t formatted my home dir, that could have been the reason.
Thanks.
No.
“kde-open” is in fact a KDE4 application (it is part of kdebase4-runtime, and doesn’t exist in “KDE5”), so it does of course report the KDE4 and Qt4 libraries versions.
As I wrote, KDE3 applications (which are not present in Leap, but you could install them from addon repos) will also tell you that they are using KDE3 libraries (and they do) if you run them in Plasma5. Just like GNOME/GTK applications will use the GNOME/GTK libraries.
To realize which KDE desktop version you are using, look into KInfocenter, or run plasmashell -v.
(both things only apply to Plasma5 though)
Hi wolfi323,
Yes, KInfocenter does display KDE Plasma Version 5.4.2.
Thanks for the clarification thought I’d borked my install :shame:
