So,
If you live in the USA, then this is likely the relevant page

According to the page,

• The application is compatible with WinXP, so it’s <likely> that the application should run under WINE without issue
• The application requires a cable connection. Without more description whether this is a USB or RS-232 cable(15-pin or 9-pin), it’s hard to know if that will be an issue connecting to a Virtualbox Guest, particularly a WINE app running on Linux. Do you consider yourself technically capable or willing to persevere to overcome not so simple obstacles?
• Java should not be an issue, you should install the latest version available and that means released April 2013 or later.

If you have a Windows Host, in this case I recommend installing directly on that machine, but there can be reasons why you would want to investigate alternatives, eg
– If WinXP, you’re already on last legs of support. Despite another 9 months or so of minimal support, it’s subject to various exploits with no ability to harden against.
– If an app can run in some kind of virtualization, I’d ordinarily recommend for various benefits… Management, easy backups, snapshots, etc. beyond what you’ll get in the OS.

TSU I am sorry I did not get back to you. I think I am capable of sticking with a problem and working til the end.
when I started this thread I just installed Suse 12.3 and was having problems with guest additions on Virtual Box. thru many searches I now have that working and behind me.
as to Java I agree it should not be a version problem. I am more inclined now to think that Glucofacts is trying to install and cannot find a Java copy in the folders that it thinks it should be.
I have to learn more from WineHQ or forums as to the file structure that it uses.
