Is Wayland stable enough and how can I login using it automatically? (TW)

Hi all

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong category. As per the title, is Wayland stable enough on Tumbleweed to use on a daily basis? and if so, how can I automatically start Plasma in Wayland (I use autologin) as when I boot, I always end up in X11?

Thank you all in advance

Using Wayland on Gnome here since a couple of years ago, no showstoppers.
KDE users might have other opinions, but you can see for yourself: disable autologin (temporarily?) then at the login screen check on the lower left of the screen a button labeled “Desktop Session: xxx” and select Plasma(Wayland).
If it doesn’t suit you, revert to Plasma(X11) and enable autologin again.

TW + Plasma + Wayland here for ~3 years. All fine, I’d say better than X11

Great, thanks. Do you use autologin and if so, how do you get it to default to Wayland?

No autologin here. But logout, choose Plasma Wayland session, login again should do the job. On reboot it will start what you used latest.

oh, I see. Thanks, I’ll give it a try.

You can also change the KDE default:

  • Open KDE Settings (System → System Settings)
  • Startup and Shutdown → Now Login Screen (SDDM)
  • Behavior (button left under)
  • Then change the “with session” to “Plasma *Wayland)”

Exactly that, and that is where you can set auto login too.
