Is there a way to block users on this forum, so I don’t have to see them or their posts and replies?
I understand that we probably don’t want people blocking mods and admin and such. But if this person is a normal user and I simply never want to speak to this person ever again for my own peace of mind, can I do so? I’ve looked and I only see options to turn off notifications, and I couldn’t find other posts asking about this. I’m interested in the answer, even if it’s “no”.
Yes that is possible in Discourse:
To access this menu click the user icon in the top right and select the person icon “Profile” and the “Summary” and “Preferences”
That’s probably the typical behaviour these days. Running away from it, ignoring it, banning it or simply blocking it.
Just don’t listen to or read other people’s opinions. Just don’t engage with them.
It’s all too much effort.
Since you’re bound to disagree with my opinion as well, you might as well add me to your new list straight away.
If you’re simply wanting to avoid reading threads started by user xxxx, you can simply “Mute” the thread, which is easy.
See screenshot #1. Open the thread, and scroll to the bottom (last Reply). Click on “Normal” - the multi-choice pop up with appear. Click on “Muted”. Now that thread will NOT be shown again in the thread list.

If you’re absolutely adamant about muting a user, that can be done.
See screenshot #2 … click on the user’s Forum name , or click on their icon. A pop up appears - click on the user’s Forum name (arrow).

The user’s Profile page will show up. Click on “Normal” to show the pop up choices box - click on preferred option.

This is indeed where I looked, but I only have the options for “normal” or “muted”. I do not have an “ignored” option. I thought it was weird that it wasn’t there, so I now I have a new question. Why don’t I have a “ignored” option? 
This is also weird for me, because I do not have a field where I can add users to an “ignored” list - only a “muted” list. I wonder what’s going on?
Oh, to show it you have to go into your OWN account, not in the user’s you want to ignore. Just to make sure.
It’s quite possible it is related to your current “Trust Level”. It’s listed on your Profile.
For example, new users can’t do certain things, like posting images (or similar) … or you can’t post more than xxxx Replies. There are other restrictions.
As time moves on, and you participate more and more, and you’re not posting bad stuff, your Trust Level increases, and you’ll earn other capabilities.
This is NOT specific to the openSUSE Forums. Many forums are configured in similar ways. Heck, in a couple of forums I participate in, you have to first post in an “Introduction” thread, then be “approved” before you can post anywhere else.

Yes, I haven’t been very chatty yet. But if I can’t fix my repos again, you might see me making another “help my repos are hecked again” post soon 
I want to see if I can understand the problem better, maybe even fix it, using the advice I got the first time around.
But other than that I do like openSUSE for my old laptop, and I plan to stick with it and stick around!
