Is there a forseeable downside to mounting NFS volumes to /home?

I understand that /home is usually where user profiles (& information & data) are stored.
I have a media server, with nfs exports for ‘media’ and ‘documents’.
On the workstations, these are currently mounted via fstab to /storage/mediaShare and /storage/docShare respectively, but I am interested in mounting them alongside the /home users.
for example, ‘ls /home’ would show:** ‘user1 user2 mediaShare docShare’**
Is there a foreseeable downside to mounting these NFS volumes to /home?
Is there another more common/preferred method for this?

There’s not enough information there.

If your media server is using a Windows file system, then best not to put that in home directories. Mount it somewhere else, and add symbolic links to home directories for ease of access to the media server.

If your media server uses a linux filesystem, maybe it’s fine. NFS was originally intended by Sun for mounting home directories from a server. But, again, there’s too little information in your post to determine whether this is a good idea.

openSUSE server, ext4 filesystem.
…but you still said “maybe”…
