Internet connection unstable, need to press retry a lot

Heya,

I’m experiencing a bug on my OpenSuse install. All internet connections seems to be unstable, both wired and wireless. I almost constantly have to press ‘Retry’ in either Firefox, or when using yast, when installing software/configuring repositories. Any ideas? The novelty of this bug is wearing off surprisingly quickly! :stuck_out_tongue:

Without knowing anything about your internet infrastructure (you haven’t shared any info), I would take a look at the health of the router and cabling terminations etc. Maybe also check status with your service provider.

You may also need to consider disabling IPv6, if your hardware or service provider doesn’t support it.

openSUSE 12.3: Chapter 13. Basic Networking

In the IPv6 Protocol Settings choose whether you want to use the IPv6 protocol. It is possible to use IPv6 together with IPv4. By default, IPv6 is activated. However, in networks not using IPv6 protocol, response times can be faster with IPv6 protocol disabled. If you want to disable IPv6, uncheck the Enable IPv6 option. This disables autoload of the kernel module for IPv6. This will be applied after reboot.

Tell us a few things:

  1. What version of openSUSE you’re using.

  2. What desktop you’re using.

  3. What type of networking hardware you have.

  4. What type of Internet connection you have.

  5. Specifics of something you try and what the exact and specific error
    message you receive is.

Without that fairly fundamental information, there’s absolutely no way
anyone would be able to reliably help you resolve your issue.
