Internal webcam detected?

Hi,

I tried with a TW rescue live system on a usb stick to check, if on my son’s DELL 7390 2in1 the internal camera ist detected on Linux. WIN11 stopped to detect it some days ago, so I want to check if (new) hardware fault or OS level issue.

There are some “camera” and “LNXVIDEO” entries in “hwinfo” output, but I’m not sure, as also there are “fingerprint sensor” entries, and a fingerprint sensor for sure is not built in.

Could maybe anyone with more knowledge about hardware take a look in this hwinfo output? openSUSE Paste

Thanks,
Michael

Why not testing with a full live ISO like Gnome? You can test directly then with foto/video apps like Cheese if your webcam works…

@hui they are on USB 2.0, takes too long to boot a full desktop environment…

@michael_of Does it show in the output of the command lsusb?

What? Accoding the documentation the DELL 7390 2in1 has already USB3.1 ports with 5GB/s! This is more than enough to start a live system from an USB stick…
It is an up to date model with BIOS from 2023…

@hui the 7390 is not the issue, but the only old usb 2.0 usb stick I have a available here, on a Sunday afternoon

I detected this when using the Suse Imagewriter, slow… although my Leap 15.5 box also has usb 3.0 slots…

@malcolmlewis NO, not detected by lsusb

Aaaah, ok. My bad. You didn’t mention it…

@michael_of then I would suspect hardware failure… Since it’s a laptop, maybe some wear and tear on the cable where it passes through the screen hinges…

Probably broken, yes.

@michael_of Not that I would expect it to help but you have a slightly old bios. 1.31. The latest for your laptop is 1.32. It can’t hurt to upgrade.
