Internal LCD of laptop turning OFF - comes back on while mouse is moving / changes on screen happen

I suspect this is some “deep down inside” power management related stuff, but that’s just a hunch.

As you can imagine, this is annoying as heck & if I didn’t have an external monitor the thing would be useless. The issue starts at some point during the boot process, way before any GUI is running. I think I’ve seen some i915 messages at that point in time.

Sometimes I can make it “go away” by turning the internal LCD off and on again a couple of times (KDE display settings).

When booting a rescue live system (non-suse, somewhat older kernel), this issue is non-existent (and wasn’t on TW before).

Any pointers? I don’t care much for VGA power management, so if this can be turned off completely by some i915 kernel parameter, I’m totally fine with that.

My external monitor is fortunately totally unaffected by this - and it’s definitely not the normal turn the screen off timeout kicking in - which correctly affects both monitors.
