Intel Xeon X3440 Problem

I have a Dell PowerEdge T110 with OpenSUSE 11.3 (64 bit version).
The X3440 appears in My Computer (sysinfo:/) with 8 cores. It has 4 cores, not 8. I need a little help in this problem.

Perhaps intel’s ‘hyper threading technology’?
I haven’t seen much that proves it’s usefulness in most situations.

Realy I don’t know much about intel because I am used to use AMD and I do not like intel maybe is intel’s hyper threading technology as said dvhenry.

What problem? Each HT core will count as 2 and this situation is normal. There
are limits on what the extra CPU can do, but you do gain a little advantage. If
the count bothers you, perhaps you can turn HT off in the BIOS.

I do not know, because I have profiler in my processor I can repair the cores. I do not know if intel has.

Each core for few words is double core, that is not, in my opinion, a problem. Amd has the same system but not of double core but for a core. For example I have an AMD PHENOM II X3 processor with 3+1 cores. +1 core is the hidden core. In my konqueror write amd phenom ii x4. Understand my words, ok? The one extra core with profiler I give him in graphics card so the core of processor cooperate with graphics card. That means better speed, better performance etc. You have no problems.

Always Friendly!!!
