Intel BE200/iwlwifi - NET Install doesn’t load firmware

As per the topic, when I try and install Tumbleweed on my laptop via NET installer, (dabbled in a bit of Kinoite but openSUSE still feels like home, I’d love a bootc tumbleweed but that’s besides the point) the installer fails because there is no network device available.

lsmod reports that iwlwifi is loaded and it detects the BE200, however the kernel logs show “Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-bz-b0-fm-c0-c10{2,3,4 and 5}.ucode failed with error -2”

However if I use the DVD installer, I still can’t connect to wifi at install time; but after install, it works fine and I can connect.

This makes no sense to me as I’m not updating the driver between installing the distro and first boot - am I missing something?

Thanks!

Perfect, I will add to that bug report when I get time later with my own findings. I had a look at the image folder structure and I didn’t see that ucode at all, so maybe it’s just missing from the base image.

Managed to hack this to get running in the DVD installer (I assume this would work in NET too) by extracting the ucode from the .rpm and copying it to /lib/firwmare and modprobing iwlwifi again.

Looks like it loads iwlwifi-bz-b0-fm-c0-c102.ucode, from testing.
