Installing new widgets

When installing new widgets by having the program download them frm KDE-looks.org i only get three widgets to choose from (none of which seem to work)is this simplya flaw of KDE that is yet to be resolved or is something wrong with my installation?
There are a lot of widgets on the website that look intersting, but there seems to be no way of installing themwithout downloading the KDE developer packages first. Is there a workaround?

there are some in the repositories that have been and are on kde-look

Yes, i know, one of them (wolf) made plasma crash and burn when i tried to enable it. But that is still only a very small part of what’s on the site, unless i am missing a repository.

You should really tell us what version of openSUSE you are using and also your kde4 version.

Sorry, yes of course. I’m using Opensuse 11.1 with whatever KDE 4 came with it. 4.1.3 i think.
I’m connected to the factory repo (an attempt to clear up a problem with plasma forgetting customisations on logout) but i don’t think that has been updated to a newer version yet.

Make sure you have these repos

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/STABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/STABLE:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_11.1

Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Factory_Desktop

You will need to do update all in this list for each repo, use software management - filter by repo

That does not seem to add much.
In any case, i had hoped to make the “install new widgets from the internet”, in the add plasmoid dialog, way work. After all, that’s how it’s supposed to be done no?

If you mean ‘Add Widgets’, yes that is how it is done.

kde-look offers all manner of features you can add, but it will require some skill on your part to install them. There is usually a link on the page in question offering install instructions, or the packager will put some info in a text file within the archive you download.

FYI:
I count 50+ widgets / plasmoids that I can add. And I haven’t installed that many from the repo’s, and none manually from kde-look. Although I am using 4.2 beta which is way more advanced than 4.1.3

In the add widgets dialog? I guess i’ll wait for 4.2 to hit factory then.

Yes in the add widgets from right click desktop

4.2 is in Factory (here is the root dir: Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4: )
it’s ‘unstable’ - but actually works better than 4.1.3

Where are you getting 50 widgets, not kde-look?

kde 4.2 beta2
unstable factory,
google gadgets arrived in there last week, works well.

heaps of other there too

Just before I read this, I decided to update my lab rat that has 11.2 Alpha0 and KDE 4.2 on it. I was startled to see google gadgets come in.

I’ll have to wait a while to try them since zypper is bringing in 1,056 packages! :open_mouth:
