This is an install on a Dell Latitude X1. When using the image openSUSE-Tumbleweed-LegacyX86-DVD-i586-Snapshot20250801, the install runs until the hardware detection phase (green bars at the bottom) and seemingly completes it. However, the install is then stalled and ultimately performs a reset. Changing to text mode install doesn’t change anything. How can more verbose output be gotten from the “hardware detection” phase?
Dell Latitude X1 tells us virtually nothing about the hardware comprising your laptop. Running inxi -Faz in Debian and pasting the input/output from it here would be a big help in trying to formulate suggestions. If inxi is not found, try neofetch or fastfetch. At least tell us the CPU and GPU models yours actually contains if you can’t do any of those.
When the installer GUI first starts, try the ESC key to see more information. Then try also Ctrl-Alt-F[2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10] to see other information and opportunities, followed by Ctrl-Alt-F[1,7]`.
For me, unfortunately ESC does not give additional information (no change). Thank you for taking the time, this is a toy project, and if there is no easy fix, it is not worth bothering.
@mrmazda: I do not get anywhere where I could issue inxi. It is a Pentium M so right at the lower end of what is (might be) supported.
I have no Pentium Ms to test whether this remains applicable in the current TW i586 installation kernel. It might be worth a try. The “[8]” in the quote refers to this ubuntu page that describes possible workarounds that may be “easy” enough to allow installation to eventually succeed.
