Hi, on my TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro 15 v4 running KDE Version 5.15.90, it isn’t listed in the printers insallable by yast, I was trying to install the printer xerox phaser 7500, following xerox instructions seems quite complicate, so, reading here I may be that I need only ppd files, but, I don’t know if the phaser 7500 is a postscript printer and is not present in the list in the [site](http://I need only ppd files, but, I don’t know if the phaser 7500 is a postscript printer and is not present in the list).
as in the xerox instructions they says that the drivers has to be installed before the specific printer software (that they says that it install the ppd and icons files), is it safe to install the specific printer software to try if it works??
From the specifications https://www.office.xerox.com/printers/color-printers/phaser-7500/spec-enus.html the 7500 is a postscript printer: “Adobe PostScript® 3™”
Whether it would work with a generic postscript driver I’ve no idea… It’s absence from http://www.openprinting.org/ makes me think perhaps not.
If you have the manufacturer’s PPD file you could just try copying that to (from memory) “/usr/share/cups/model/…”, but there may be other files needed, possibly filter file(s) that need to be copied to (again from memory) “/usr/lib/cups/filter”.
You might be better off persevering with trying to get the manufacturer’s install to work. Has xerox any sort of user forum where you could ask for assistance…
manythanks tannington, in the folder of specific printer I have these folders:
/db; where inside are folders like this: /en_US; and inside files like these: CoreString.xdb, PrtHelp.xdb, PrtString.xdb, v4DriverStrings.xdb
/help; where inside are files like this: CWguide-en_US.html
/icon; where inside are folders like this: /icon/xr_p7500; and inside files like this: 5Trays.gif, static.xbm
/lib; where inside are folders like this: Linuxi686, and files like this: libPhaser6180MFP.so
/ppd that I have to copy in /usr/share/cups/model/…
what I have to copy and where?
…copying only the ppd file the printer works!!! lol!
Good result then!
I must admit, I’m surprised it worked …
