What are you trying to achieve exactly?
Check if grub-install is what you’re looking for.

I shortly read that description and to be honest, I don’t think you really need this.
After partitioning, just try to install grub (the description also does this) and you should be done.
I just simulated this by creating an image, binding it to /dev/loop0, creating a new partition table and partitioning it with fdisk.
After that I could install grub successfully on that “disk”.
