Hi all, I am relatively new using linux (I was using ubuntu for a few days and now I’m using ubuntu xD). I want to install the Adobe Flash Player for my Firefox Web Browser, so I download the .tar.gz file from adobe’s web site, and follow the instructions to install in linux. Then I create a folder in /home/mypc/Downloads/flash and inside, I extract the files from the tar.gz file (flashplayer-installer and libflashplayer.so).
The next I do, is open the terminal, type su and my password to get root access (the prompt turns red) and I type the path to locate the folder in which the files are stored, so I type cd /home/mypc/Downloads/flash and hit enter, next I type ./flashplayer-installer as the instructions says.
Then, it appears some instructions for the Adobe Instalation, like You are running the Adobe Flash Player installer as the “root” user.
Adobe Flash Player 9 will be installed system-wide.
I follow up the instructions and hit enter to continue, close my firefox as requested, and then I stuck on a part that says Please enter the installation path of the Mozilla, Netscape,
or Opera browser (i.e., /usr/lib/mozilla): so I type /usr/lib/firefox because I don’t found a folder with that name, instead I found a firefox folder, but when I hit enter to choose that path an error message appears and says:
WARNING: Please enter a valid installation path.
So I can’t continue with the instalation of the plug-in, I also tried several ways like some fake folders like 222 but an error message says:
WARNING: /home/mypc/Downloads/flash/222 is not a directory.
Did I made something wrong? Or forget some step? I know that I can Install flash from the repository, but since I want to know the commands to work with terminal, I want to install it manually.
So, can anyone please help me? I really appreciate
Download the rpm from openSUSE. Search for "Adobe Flash Player"Webpin here and then click on “1 click install”. This should install everything in the right place for you.
Hi.
It’s been awhile since I’ve used Ubuntu, but I’m pretty sure you’re doing it the hard way. Start your package manager (synaptic) and use the search function to find the flash plugin. A search term like “flash” should do the trick. Ubuntu has an excellent forum here;

Your’s is a pretty common question for a new user, so try the forum search first. I also recommend subscribing to the forum rss feed. Wikis and irc channels are also excellent sources of info. Google is your friend.
Good luck.
If you are using Ubuntu, the easy way would be to start your package manager (synaptic), and use the search function to find and install the flash plugin.

OMG, forgive me guys, I didn’t noticed that I wrote “Ubuntu” twice, I was really intend to say “I was using Ubuntu, and now I’m using OpenSuse”
I think I will try the rpm, since is not too complicated, but if anyone knows something else, I will be grateful.
i had this problem too. I am new to opensuse also, i found the firefox folder did not contain a “plugins” folder, so i added one, after that the installation ran.
