Inhibiting display stand-by

Using xfce. After about 10 minutes of non-activity, my display goes into stand-by mode. How can I inhibit this when watching a film (vlc, Firefox)?

Activate the presentation mode. Does this help?

What is presentation mode and how do I activate it?
Display power management and Xscreensaver are disabled in Applications/Settings.

Click on the power/pattery icon in the task bar.
