I have 3 i7 920 based machines. Inxi and lscpu show the i7 920 is capable of sse4_2. I tried a new install of Leap16.0 on one of them. Booting from DVD or USB results in a small flashing cursor on a black screen after asking for a new install. The migration tool says the hardware is not capable of running Leap 16.0. Can anyone make a definite call on this?
That was a bug in opensue-migration-tool which should already be fixed:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1250896
It appears that all post-Core2 Intel X86_64 CPUs are at least v2, so any 3 digit Core 3/5/7 has its foot in the door.
My squeaker’s an i5-660.
It is not fixed. Version 20251001.d4b9783-lp156.14.1 refuses to upgrade 15.6 to 16.0 on the i7 920 machine in question.
Then simply bypass it by downloading the master from the official source. It is only a simple script which needs no packaging…
If it still won’t work, an issue at github is required. And afterwards a bugreport at openSUSE bugzilla.
The moveb fix is in the 20251001.d4b9783-lp156.14.1 it contains the last version from git. But the problem could be the “xsave” flag. According to this document https://gitlab.com/x86-psABIs/x86-64-ABI/-/jobs/artifacts/master/raw/x86-64-ABI/abi.pdf?job=build “xsave” is not part of x86_64_v2.
> ld.so --help
If the command above returns something like
..
x86-64-v2 (supported, searched)
..
on your machine then the migration script might have another bug.
That is exactly what is returned.
Then please open a bugreport as mentioned above.
(mod edit to make this a link).
You still have the option to upgrade without involving the migration tool. That’s what I did with my i5-660.
See cannot-migrate-on-x201, might work for you too.
