I’m new here, but I’ve been using suse linux since the early 2000s and it’s my only distro and my only os. if this is the wrong forum, I’d appreciate being pointed to the right site/subforum.
I am using opensuse tumbleweed (very happy with it) and I built my own interface based on hyprland. everything works as expected, the system is stable etc.
there’s one major problem: for some reason unknown to me, opensuse’s hyprland (zypper) has been compiled without hyprpm support. is this something that can be changed? there’s no reason hyprpm wouldn’t be available and it severely limits what hyprland can do.
I know that plugins can be built from scratch, but it’s very complicated and difficult to maintain, not to mention it defeats the purpose of zypper.
yes, there are some plugins available in zypper, but I found the experience to be limited. hyprland is undergoing a lot of development and 3rd party plugins aren’t always up to date, especially in zypper repos. with hyprbars, for example, I had an issue where updating hyprland broke hyprbars.
this issue can be easily avoided by compiling hyprland with plugin support, allowing the built-in package manager to build plugins from the latest available git source.
is there a specific reason opensuse’s version is compiled with no hyprpm support?
is there a portal where I can request/recommend a change?
