Software software.o.o DOS

The software portal (https://software.opensuse.org) was/is under DOS from unknown sources. Through search requests it took build.opensuse.org with it so we turned the software portal off for now…

Click on “Community services” which shows a red sign. You will find that “Software” search is down atm bc of a major outage.

The part you are refering to is the “sticked incident”. The actual outage is not a sticky one.

@qwert.zuiop yes there was a second incident as well as an OBS rollback during last Thursdays maintenance window. It may not be resurrected either… it is broken, likewise with the move to git many packages won’t show up any more etc.

Use the openSUSE Build Service search feature.

software.opensuse.org has been in a sad state, for going on close to a decade now, and with the transition to git for Leap-16, it’s in even worse shape as far as being a useful tool.

I wouldn’t bet that it’s going to come back, at all, if the community doesn’t step up to work on it, and I’m somewhat surprised we’ve kept it running as long as we have, with the basically unmaintained state of it.

I’m more surprised that the errors and problems on the site haven’t been fixed. That the site is being neglected. That another unique selling point is being abandoned for no reason.
The site is great. It’s clear and easy to use. You can find where an application is located and in which repository. And rs is also a great help for building packages.
But…

@ecsos, step up, fix and maintain? AFAIK that’s all it needs, plus git integration…

That’s how I see it too.
Before anyone comes along and says I could do it. I would do it if I had the ability.
But the site shouldn’t be abandoned. Not that one too. And the problem isn’t the site, it’s git itself. I still don’t see the advantage. But that’s another topic.
Please don’t let the site die!

Who is going to do it?

software.opensuse.org is completely a community written and maintained endeavour.

If the community doesn’t do it, then it isn’t going to get done.

Can someone write to me about how I can contribute to keeping software.opensuse.org alive?

I’m sure there are issues filed there, describing problems.
