HP ProLiant DL160 G6 Server

hi,
do anybody try to install opensuse 11.2 on HP ProLiant DL160 G6 Server ? i want to know if it’s compatible with this server.
thx

Most servers should be compatible. However, you can give it a try using the LiveCD.

thx for your reply,
because at HP site they list compatible operting system as follow :
:
Compatible Operating Systems
Microsoft® Windows® Server; Microsoft® Windows® Server 2008 Hyper V; Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL); SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES); Solaris 10 for x86/x64 based Systems; Citrix Essentials for XenServer (Retail).
as we see we dont find opensuse, all the drivers are just for SLEX, i couldn’t find drivers for opensuse !!

i read in a pst post that someone had a problem with the NIC card, it wouldnt work with SLES driver. :frowning:

Hi
You should be able to download the PSP source rpm package and rebuild
that.

Hi All,

I am in the same situation. I would like to see this thread through to the end if anyone can help me out. I am a complete newbie to Linux. I am a reforming Windows guy.

I have a HP ProLiant DL160 G6 server that I am ultimately trying to run .NET applications on it with openSUSE and Mono. The end goal in all of this is to install Orange Leap, an open source Constituent Management System for non-profits. But anyway.

I installed openSUSE 11.4 from DVD. I choose the KDE Desktop (the default) and I get past all the “Preparation” stage. After the installation is performed, I get the following message:

The graphical interface could not be started.

The required packages were not installed (minimal installation) or the graphics card is not properly supported.

As a fallback, the text front-end of YaST will guide you through the installation. This front-end offers the same functionality as the graphical one, but the screens differ from those in the manual.

After boot up, I end up at a command line based interface. I think my graphics card is operating correctly because I run “lspci” and an entry comes up saying:

VGA Compatible Controller: Matrox Graphics, Inc. MGA G200e [Pilot] Server Engines

I know this is just as functional as a graphical interface, but I would REALLY prefer KDE or something.
Please help? :shame:

I just saw: 442406-configuring-graphics-cards-opensuse-11-3-a I will follow this, then report the results.
