This is the pdf I use to test… each driver working with my M203dw printer.
When printing there is only the first two “Test” printed… I can’t remember have had such issue with previous printer, an HP also monochrome laser jet.
When printing images in gray tones/scale I don’t “see” any issue, as when printing test page the gray tones looks correct. The only thing happens with texts. Those which are in some level of gray scale are simply not printed.
The gray scales are good with png/jpg (for example the shadow projections on some 3D objets) are well rendered.
For the tests I use mainly ooowriter and okular.
My questions: is there some rumors concerning some traps when using non hp ink cartridges ?
The issue is the same using Windows system so my doubts are focused on the printer or the drivers used.
As I’m OOW I did not ask HP directly.
Are some people had such experiences ?
How could I expect having a resolution, because some of my important works are not printable as they use some gray tones that are not printed :{
Why the driver if it doesn’t work with the driver for Windows either?
According to a quick google search your printer is a laser printer!?
I would imagine that aftermarket toner might use different toner particles and that might influence the coloring. Maybe you could try different contrast settings.
Anyways this seems to be a very printer specific question. I don’t see how this can be connected to openSUSE or CUPS, as it is the same problem in Windows. If you want to get this solved I guess a better way would be to ask in a printer or HP forum.
@soundlord There is one report in the HP help forum about this topic (no official HP soulution yet). He reports that this only occurs with 1200dpi but not with 600dpi. So try lowering the dpi (if possible with cups or HP driver).
HP LaserJet Pro M203dw.
Supported languages: PCL5c, PCL6, PS, PCLm, PDF, URF, PWG.
Possibly there is error in HP drivers. Try to use open generic drivers. PCL5, PCL6 (= PCL XL), PS, PDF - all are supported. IDK about URF & PWG.
Thanks everyone !!
I will try first to lower the dpi amount, then, another driver (under windows the issue is exactly the same, that is why I excluded the driver as the source of the mess)…
I tried – forgotten to talk about it – in the settings of the printer there is a “print quality” menu that let me choose from 0 (light) to 5 (dark) and I tried 3, 4, 5… with no better results…
I disabled the “Monochrome RET” as there is no definition of what “RET” means :}
I set from ProRes 1200 to 600 that is the lowest resolution for the printer… I will get back to share the results.
