HI all:
I have just done a new install of 42.1 without problems. I have a HP Laserjet Pro MFP M127fn attached to this computer via USB cable, the scanner is functioning just the printer is not working. I installed the printer via Yast Hardware/Printer. When completed I tried printing a test page with no results. I then tried to print a web page with no joy. I know to not install the HPLIP package as it is missing over 18 dependencies. I am not sure how to proceed at this point as there are no error messages, print que just say it is pending. Can someone help with problem?
No, there should be no dependency problems. For reference, I just installed hplip (even though I have no current need for it) using
# zypper in hplip

Will delete the current printer set up from Yast and install HPLIP and see if that changes any thing.
Installing HPLIP did not seem to install all the dependencies that was installed when you installed it.
[cubbybear@linux-kca1[/b] ~****]$** sudo zypper in hplip
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:
#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Tried to print test page, but no joy. Printer lcd screen states Printing document, but it is not. Not sure if required plugin is installed. Should I run hp software diagnostics? Thanks for your help. **
Ran the HPLIP diagnostics test in a attempt to correct non printing. The test/corrective attempt is here URL: http://paste.opensuse.org/46535233 . This accomplished nothing. Printer still refused to print. Do not know what more to do. From reading in the forum seems cups 2.0 has broken hplip. One forum post suggested going back to the previous version. I would try that but do not know how to. Hope some one can provide futher guidance.
Hi
openSUSE Leap 42.1 is running cups 1.7.5, are you sure cups is enabled and running?
systemctl status cups
I’ve no issues here with HP network printers, not plugged into a USB 3.0 port by chance?
[cubbybear@linux-kca1[/b] ~****]$** systemctl status cups
cups.service - CUPS Printing Service
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/cups.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Tue 2015-12-29 08:33:27 EST; 6h ago
Main PID: 1820 (cupsd)
CGroup: /system.slice/cups.service
├─1820 /usr/sbin/cupsd -f
└─6782 /usr/lib/cups/notifier/dbus dbus://
Looks like cups is running. I am out of ideas. How did you install your printer? Did you install with hp-setup from hplip, or did you use Yast hardware module, or Cups? If it would help, painful as it would be I am willing to do another fresh install to get this to a know state and help speed up getting the printer printing. In the past I have always used hplip’s hp-setup command, but I think this may be the best way. Still need all the help I can to get the printer working. Thanks for you help.**
Hi
I always use hp-setup as root user (via su -), it should open a GUI wizard for your to follow, else force usb;
hp-setup -b usb
Run hp-setup --help, it provides more options and ways to identify your usb connected device.
Connect the printer to a USB port and then capture what is reported via
dmesg|tail
That might help tell us how the device is being enumerated by the USB sub-system.
Like Malcolm already mentioned, is there a chance that a USB 3 port/driver is not playing nicely here?
Your are right it is plugged into a USB 3 port this is the output of the command:
[cubbybear@linux-kca1[/b] ~****]$** dmesg|tail

Will go back and nuke the printer config and try the above method and report that. Thanks for your help.**
Well friends. Nuked the old printer que/setup. Move the connector to a new USB 3 empty plug in used the command above to discover and set up the printer, it is the default printer. When setting up I selected to send a test page to printer. Printer lcd screen reports Printing document, but it is not. Canceled the test page print job, selected some random text off a web page to print still no joy. What to do next? Thank you for your continuing help.
Hi
Do you have a usb2 connector, or can enable legacy USB in the BIOS?
Moved the usb plug to a USB 2 plug on the front face. Tried printing test page and some random web page text from chromium and firefox still no joy. Thanks for all your help was we work this problem.
Hi
Ok, lets check cups, open a browser and use the url http://localhost:631 (username is root, your root user password).
How does the queue look and the printer, all ok?
Also try restarting cups, open a terminal and switch to root user (su -) and run the following;
systemctl restart cups
systemctl status cups
journalctl -f
Then try a print jod and see what happens in the logs we are tailing with the last command above.
Printer and que look ok. The rest is in this past.

Thanks for your help.
Hi
OK, next check…
hp-check -t

Hi
Aside from the version error, all looks fine… it all looks like it gets to the printer…
Is it possible to do a factory reset on the printer?
Well I tried the Factory Reset. Then shut down printer then powered up, tried to print test page no joy. Deleted test page tried to print a letter odt type from liberoffice. Still no joy printer lcd screen reports Printing Document, print Que has status pending. Do not know what to do. This printer worked fine under Manjaro until the last update then similar problems. I am out of options and time. I like what I see in opensuse, but it has some problems, the printer, and Steam it lacked LibXtst.so.6 which I could not find in the repositories. Do you have any more ideas? Would it be worth another reinstall of Opensuse. My media was written at 4 speed to a DVD and the writting was veryfied ok, also ran cd media test and it was OK. I have both 42.1 and tumbleweed, also latest Manjaro and Fedora (Gnome) desktop. Have never used Gnome. What are your thoughts. Need to run to HOme DEpot will be back in 3/4 of an hour.
Hi
I’m out of ideas…you could try a re-install and maybe try GNOME (which it what I use) and see if ok, then install Plasma and switch…
BTW, for steam the library is there?
zypper if libXtst6
