how to set default "open with" program ??

Hi im running opensuse 11.1 and was wondering how do you set which programs run default with filetypes. Like im trying to set avi files to run with vlc player by default ?lol!

Hi,

Here’s how I would achieve that:

right click on a file of the type you want to change the default ‘open with’ for
click properties
click the ‘spanner’ button
select the application you want to set to default
click the ‘move up’ button until it is first in the list

ah lol!lol! thanks man. I didnt think the order mattered , i thought it would still use the same program, just list the “open with” programs in a different order. Thanks again
