how to remove *.desktop files in openSuse 11.1

After installing openSuse11.1, there is 2 icons help related icons on my desktop. ‘openSuse’ and ‘online Help’.

How do I remove them? I tried to delete the assoc *.desktop files as root. But the icons remain.

Thanks

I removed them by logging in as root user from the login screen and deleted them from the root user desktop. And that was the end of those two icons.

Do this:

open console>

cd /usr/share/dist/desktop-files

Then type>

sudo rm SuSE.desktop

Then type>

sudo rm GnomeOnlineHelp.desktop

Did that work?

Thanks for the reply wgcrowder. I followed metalwraith’s advice and it worked. But I’ll keep your advice in mind as well.
Thanks

wonderful. his advice was faulty as you should NEVER log into KDE or
GNOME as root from the log in screen…

do a few searches here on that…and see for yourself.

have fun

Alternatively you can tell nautilus not to draw them. In gconf-editor, go to apps/nautilus/desktop and clear the predefined_items_dir.
