I use 42.2 plasma 5 on my notebook. Freshly installed, all updates, wifi connection to my router fine, but:
After each fresh start of the computer, and after having logged-in, this error message appears:
An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentications is required to perform this action.
It is unnessary because
I <Cancel> it
I also cancel the next question for an encryption password (there is none on my system)
after that I can get my wifi connection
What bugs me, too, that I have to enter the connection password again though I had saved it in the Network Connection Configuration. But after each fresh computer start it is gone when I try to look it up in the Network Connection Configuration.
Is there some way to prevent the error mesage and to avoid entering the connection password, each time after a fresh computer start?
Thank you,
susecub
P.S. If this helps, this is the complete error message:
System policy prevents modification of network settings for all users
An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privileges. Authentications is required to perform this action.
Password for root:
Details:
Application: <empty>
Action: Modify network connection for all users
Vendor: NetworkManager
polkit.subject-pid: 1416
polkit.caller-pid: 998
I found that unsetting the option to use the password for all users and entering the password individually for each user caused these messages to disappear. (The passwords are saved in kwallet - so I enter the kwallet password each time I log in and, whatever my location, the correct wireless connection is made.)
Get into Network Manager settings. Edit the connection. Select the security tab.
In the space where you enter the network key, there should be two icons (near the right hand side). If I remember correctly, one of those looks like a floppy disk. Click it. You should be able to change where the network key is saved. Set it to be saved in a file unencrypted. That actually saves it in a file readable only by root and controlled by NetworkManager, so it isn’t as risky as it might sound.
With that change, you should no longer be prompted for kwallet password for wifi connections to the particular network. And you will probably also be automatically connected with a login to icewm or any other installed desktop.
OK (I asked since some people try to disable kwallet in frustration and doing so can cause gremlins) ps there is an option in wallet manager to only request password once per session.
Yes, there is an option to close when the last window closes. For example, if kwallet holds the email passwords, you can open the email client first and close it last.
