How to add a virtual keyboard on the virtual keyboard widget in the system tray?

on my laptop 1=ASUS vivobook pro N552VW-FY204T (2016) with freshly installed leap 16.0 with KDE if I click on the virtual keyboard icon in the system try I only see “none” in the virtual keyboard panel, how can I add a virtual keyboard to use?

The installed packages are only libraries. As plasma6-keyboard is not available for Leap 16, you need to use as example maliit. But maliit also needs configuration as explained by sfalken.
