I use Firefox for my automation and it uses gconfd internally.
Is there a way to disable firefox from using gconfd. It writes a lot of data into saved_state which is leading to crashing total usage of CPU.
My problem is more worse. Gconf is still utilizing CPU time even though gui scripts (that use firefox) are completed.

Is there a way to disable gconf by means of gconf-editor?
Hello and welcome here.
Can you please, when having a problem with, or a question about openSUSE, tell which version of openSUSE you have?
OpenSuSE version is 11.4
I observed via gconf-editor that gconf-settings-daemon/gnome-system-log/logfile states the location of log file
Please let me know if there is a way to disable logging to saved_state file
This is rather crucial information.
I assume you know that openSUSE 11.4 was discontinued 2012-11-05. There is an Evergreen version still supported, but you do not say you are usnig it (and then you probably would have posted in the “Tumbleweed, Evergreen and PreRelease/Beta” sub-forum instead of here).
As said, it is rather crucial for people here to know that. IIAC, there is quite some difference between the Gnome versions then and now.
Hi,
I am open to upgrade my openSUSE. Can you please let me know version of openSUSE and corresponding version of gnome and steps toovercome my issue?
if you’re not looking for the latest and don’t like installing too often go with openSUSE 13.1 (it’s the long term supported evergreen release)
as for your gconf problem I have no idea what it is, seeing how firefox can run on a pure kde system without gnome I belive your problem is something else not and not firefox.
AFAIK the old firefox did use a little gtk+ for it’s UI but I think they’ve got a new native one and it doesn’t use gconf, all firefox config files and logs go in a folder .mozilla in your home not in gnome’s registry.
Also helpful to know what version of Firefox you are running?
I use firefox 16. Due to some constraints my automation tool is not compatible with later version of firefox.
