I just installed openSuse 13.2, and i can now dual boot with Windows 8.1.
However, I cannot connect to the internet using openSuse.
I’m using the “MTS MBlaze Ultra 9.8Mbps” USB modem.
When I plugged it in first into my Windows system, Windows automatically installed software/drivers (they are included in the modem itself), and created the connection for me. Now I can dial the connection every time I want using Windows 8.1’s “Network and sharing center”.
I have a Live Ubuntu persistent flash drive too. When I first plugged in the device to Ubuntu, it behaved exactly like Windows 8.1. It installed software/drivers automatically, and I can connect to the internet by clicking on the diamond shaped icon on top of Gnome in Ubuntu. Since it’s persistent, it kept the setup, and when I boot to ubuntu and plug the dongle in, it doesn’t reinstall software. I just plug it in, click on the diamond icon, and click on “MTS mobile broadband”, and it connects.
I thought openSuse will behave the same, but it didn’t.
When I plug in the dongle, openSuse detects it as a removable drive. When I open the drive, I see a bunch of software. There’s a folder named “Linux”, and in it are a bunch of files. When I click on these files, a notepad like thing opens and shows scripts.
I have no idea what to do now. It would be pretty much useless if I can’t get it to connect to the internet.
Please help me. And I’m not at all a Linux pro. I’ll need step by step instructions if I’m to succeed with this.
Rebooted to Windows 8.1 just to post this
