I’m a newbie so I need step by step directions for disabling the synaptic mouse on my HP laptop. I have the Gnome environment. Can any help me?
Type this into console:
synclient TouchpadOff=1
.
I don’t have the slightest clue how to get your computer to do that at boot.
Should this be done at the root? When I typed it into the console I got the error:
Can’t access shared memory area. SHMConfig disabled?
Hi
Install gsynaptics and then via control center -> hardware ->
touchpad, uncheck the enable box.

I installed the gsnaptic via Software Management, restarted computer but I still go the error:
GSynaptics couldn’t initialize.
You have to set ‘SHMConfig’ ‘true’ in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use GSynaptics
How do I get to this?
Hi
Here’s a link to a copy of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, in there are two
synaptics sections, is yours the same?

Go to Yast > Hardware > Mouse Model
Then click the tab which corresponds to our touchpad and check the box “Activate this device”
This should allow the panel dock configuration to function.
Hello,
to turn the pad double click feature off and still have the pointer movement you should type the following in your terminal;
su -
<enter your password>
synclient TouchpadOff=2
This will work for KDE and Gnome.
