How do I set up different backgrounds on each desktop ?

I’ve installed 11.2 on a DELL Lattitude D610 lpatop.

Works - almost - perfectly.

A question: how can I change the background for an individual desktop ?

I’ve been Googl’ing it, but get different options for difference
sub-versions.

Anyone ?

Any time things appear to be going better, you have overlooked
something.

What desktop environment?

On KDE you just right click on whichever desktop you want to set the paper
on and go to Desktop settings. Set the wallpaper…done.

Thats KDE3 not 4 though

It can now be done in KDE-4.3.1.

Here are the steps:

  1. Navigate to the top right corner of your screen - you should an image of an orange cashew
  2. Left-click on it and select " Configure Plasma "
  3. Next to " Different activity for each desktop ", place a check-mark next to it and click on the OK button

Now you can assign a different wallpaper or background for each virtual desktop.

Have fun!

As Romanator describes, plus you can install specific plasmoids/widgets for each “activity” desktop, which is particularly useful with the Folderview plasmoid. Be warned though, “activities” can be hair-raisingly buggy (much of the time it works, then you get screwed-up desktops, YMMV of course).
A slightly different procedure is to have only one desktop/workspace and switch between the activities instead. That is less buggy in my experience but the problem there is the Activities plasmoid for switching between activities: unlike the virtual desktop switcher, it takes up loads of space on the panel and cannot be configured to behave itself.

How about for GNOME users???

Thanks!!

Hi
If you running compiz, you will loose the desktop icons…

Start the CompizConfig settings manager, and go to the wallpaper
section and add your selection of backgrounds. Then start gconf-editor
and apps->nautilus->preferences and uncheck ‘show_desktop’

Logout/login and you will have different desktop wallpapers.
