HOW DO I RIP TO MP3 IN BANSHEE

Both those files are installed from the begining when you first advised me.

As i mentioned in a previous post i am using gnome shell not kde, i have no idea if this makes any difference but i just mention it again.

It should not matter.
Like I say, try the other applications I suggested

I have installed asunder ( I had to install ‘lame’ file to enable mp3), and it works fine , so thanks for that, but I hate to give up on k3b and admit defeat, so any suggestions by anyone on how to get it working are most welcome, (there must be an answer).

Thanks

k3b should work and I checked the build and it has MAD in the build
You should perhaps check yours

I un-installed k3b and re-installed from packman, I cheked for file libmad0, and it is there and installed, there is another file listed called cmus-plugin-mad, but I suppose this is for another application

Can I go back to the original question and ask what you are ripping. Is it a CD?

I’ll have to get back to this, I have to go out. But I will do a full check on k3b and k3b-codecs

Yes, just an audio cd, so i can transfer my cd music to either my mp3 player, or usb stick for my car radio.

Thanks for your help in this, but i am learning.

I just tested it on my laptop
http://thumbnails46.imagebam.com/13595/ee4f75135949970.jpg](ImageBam)

I have

k3b-codecs-2.0.2-8.pm.13.1.x86_64
k3b-2.0.2-8.pm.13.1.x86_64

Works just fine
Yes I am in KDE but it works in Gnome too

<entry kind=“package” name=“k3b-codecs” epoch=“0” ver=“2.0.2” rel=“8.pm.13.1” arch=“i586”/>
<entry kind=“package” name=“k3b” epoch=“0” ver=“2.0.2” rel=“8.pm.13.1” arch=“i586”/>

I think I have the same.
I know this is taking up your time so dont let it take up any more, I will keep trying just for the hell of it, but if you do think of something let me know

thanks again

Just confirm again the error you are now getting.

As su -
do:

zypper ref
zypper lu
zypper ve

report results of lu and ve

Ok, I included zypper ref as well:

Problem: PackageKit-0.6.12-1.3.4.i586 requires PackageKit-branding = 0.6.12, but this requirement cannot be provided
uninstallable providers: PackageKit-branding-upstream-0.6.12-1.3.4.i586[GNOME:STABLE:3.0]
PackageKit-branding-openSUSE-11.4-3.6.1.noarch[openSUSE-11.4-11.4-0]
PackageKit-branding-upstream-0.6.12-1.4.1.i586[repo-oss]
PackageKit-branding-openSUSE-11.4-3.6.1.noarch[repo-oss]
Solution 1: Following actions will be done:
install PackageKit-0.6.14-0.2.1.i586 (with vendor change)
obs://build.opensuse.org/GNOME → openSUSE
install libpackagekit-glib2-14-0.6.14-0.2.1.i586 (with vendor change)
obs://build.opensuse.org/GNOME → openSUSE
Solution 2: downgrade of PackageKit-branding-openSUSE-11.4-3.10.1.noarch to PackageKit-branding-openSUSE-11.4-3.6.1.noarch
Solution 3: break PackageKit by ignoring some of its dependencies

Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/3/c] (c):

I looked up the PackageKits out of interest to see what they did, but they seem to be more to do with graphics software management then audio, but I haven’t done anything yet, I will wait for your advice.

Leave things be.
All the errors you have are I think a result of using su and not su -

What I suggest now is you start a new thread about using k3b in gnome 3
That way we can get gnome 3 users drawn in better.

Start it in applications:
Title it something like: Help: Using k3b in Gnome 3
You could offer a link back to this thread too

OK, thanks again.

I’m sorry is there a specific forum for gnome 3

No
Just post it here
Applications

Hi, just to let you know, as I was not having any success, i decided as a last resort to re-install 11.4 and Gnome3, refresh all packman packages and low and behold when I reinstalled k3b it worked perfectly., as you said it should.

Thanks for your help.

By the way tried Clememtine, it is fantastic, its got everything you need in a music player, and works great, metadata, tags, lyrics, artist info, reccomended!

This is good.
Thank you for letting me know. Must have been some Gremlins in the old setup.
