how do I rip DVDs in opensuse 13.1

I’m having difficulty finding DVD ripping software that actually works. Does anyone have any recommendations? K3b fails every time with any disc. It used to work about a year ago but the “updates” seem to have killed this functionality. I also have handbrake installed which won’t even open any more. If I select it from the launcher menu, the little icon appears for a few seconds and then disappears, but the program never opens. It also used to work previously. I also tried installing dvdrip, but that returns a dependency problem, stating “nothing provides cdrecord >= 0.7.12.” Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

What updates, and how do you do them? What repos do you use? Post the
output of “zypper lr --details” inside a code tags block — the ‘#’
button in the forum editor.

It is available in “multimedia:apps”, but it is strange they require it.

I usually just install the updates from the software updater applet on the desktop. Should I use zypper instead? I wouldn’t think it would make any difference, the applet just notifies me so I use it. Repos posted below:

This is how it looks in kde

Handbrake and k9copy both work here (13.2)

No, that’s fine.

Ok, they are correct.

Try doing the multimedia switch to packman again.

The only versions I see in packman are the devel and/or debug versions (and the unstable handbrake), is that all that’s available?

No, the idea is that on that view you click on “switch system packages
to this repository” or similar words. That’s the packman switch.

Ok, thanks. Handbrake will now load properly, so I’m assuming it should work now. I’ll test it this evening. Looks like it’s probably fixed.
