I did it before using a previous snapshot, but updated gstreamer anyway, and that snapshot has since been overwritten. I don’t know what “Packman” is, so I’m not inclined to brazenly add it to my system, as some other users have advised as a fix. I’d really just like to be able to watch my video library again.
You can look up the packages in the archives:
http://download.opensuse.org/history/
gstreamer-plugins-bad-1.26.2-2.1 is still available here
I tried uninstalling what I have (1.26.3) and installing 1.26.2-2.1, but Software says I still have 1.26.3
Please show zypper se -si gstreamer-plugins-bad
Actually, that’s my bad–apparently I needed to reboot, and 1.26.2 installed. However, it seems that my x265 videos are still unable to play.
AFAIK you cannot play x265 without Packman; how did you play them before the last upgrade?
Maybe I’m just imagining that I was playing x265 videos but they weren’t actually x265. Is the Packman “essentials” sufficient for this capability?
The x265 capability is provided by gstreamer-plugins-bad-codecs from Packman Essentials.
An update, upon trying to enable Packman (following the instructions here (Additional package repositories - openSUSE Wiki), I received this error : “Repository ‘packman’ not found by its alias, number, or URI.”, after adding the repo
Show your repo list via zypper lr -d
If you added the packman essentials repo you need to use “packman-essentials” when trying to use the repo in a command. The wiki explains the different commands quite clearly.
Sorry, I’m slow and just a little dumb. I had entered the command for the full set, not the essentials.
It seems that enabling this repo did not fix whatever is preventing my x265 videos from playing.
Enabling is not enough, you need to install gstreamer-plugins-bad-codecslike:
zypper in gstreamer-plugins-bad-codecs
Does this supercede the other gstreamer plugin from OpenSuse? I installed what you suggested (and rebooted) and still can’t play x265 videos
Please show:
zypper se -si gstreamer-plugins-bad
and what do you use to play those videos?
Ah good question. I was using Videos. I just tried VLC and Celluloid and they both worked. ![]()
