Hello:
If this is not the forum to ask this question, please let me know the proper place to ask…
I’m given to understand the best place to install software from is Yast and the associated repositories.
Mozilla Firefox 52.7.3-86.1 in the 42.3 repo is getting long in the tooth and more and more things don’t work properly anymore.
Firefox is up to v57-ish but the repo has not kept up (with Firefox, anyway).
Question: should I upgrade Firefox from the Mozilla site or wait for something newer to show up in the repository?
All opinions welcome - thanks…
You could add the build repo for Mozilla
-
su -
zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_Leap_42.3/ mozilla
-
zypper ref
-
zypper dup --from mozilla
or close your terminal after step 2 above and then open Yast - Software Management
Select to view by repository
And apply the switch packages on the mozilla repo
apply
By default, Leap is using the ESR version. This thread on the same topic may be of interest to you. You could consider subscribing to the mozilla repo if you really want to use a newer version. That’s also mentioned in the thread.
Refer to the available ‘experimental packages’…

Hi
If things aren’t working (examples?), then sounds like a bug report
would be in order?
Leap 15 is due out in the not too distant future (currently 59.x), I
would expect the ESR 60.x version to appear, which could also possibly
appear in Leap 42.3, since it’s currently built in the Mozilla OBS
repository.
