Home network help or HOW-TO please!

Hi!

I would like to connect 2 computers (a laptop and a desktop) into a network, so I can access the desktop HDD and vice versa, but since I am completely new to both Linux and networks I need help.

I have the cables, the router but nothing happens. :open_mouth:

The laptop is openSUSE 11 and the desktop is Ubuntu (Gutsy).

Could the fact that the desktop is an ancient computer (Celeron 300A) be the source of the troubles?

have a squint at swerdna’s site Linux HOWTOs and Tutorials: Suse Linux 10.0, 10.1 openSUSE 10.2, 10.3, 11.0 plenty there to get you started
